Pilot town: Butere

Butere-Sabatia town is located is located in Butere sub-county, in central Marama ward, a short drive from Kakamega town.

Butere-Sabatia does not have established industries, apart from a few metal fabricators. Retail shops, butcheries, posho mills and bars dominate the informal sector. The main economic activity is agriculture, with maize farming constituting the majority of cultivated crops.

The Kakamega County Government has recognized the need to capacitate satellite towns such as Butere-Sabatia to ease the pressure on Kakamega town. This work has been commenced by setting up offices in all sub-counties to reduce traffic to headquarters.
